A VIRTUAL RACE?
Yes! Every year since 2012, Leslie Cohen Law PC has hosted a 5k fundraiser. This year, with the COVID-19 crisis leading to race cancellations all over the world, we needed to find a fun and safe way to keep up our race training while connecting with our community. Our first run was in May with proceeds donated to fund the work of Public Counsel and The Public Counsel Debtor Assistance Project (DAP), which works to assist indigent, marginalized, homeless, and other vulnerable individuals during this unprecedented time.
After the success of the first virtual run, and in the wake of Black Lives Matter and anti-police brutality movements across the country, Leslie Cohen Law is hosting a second donation-based virtual 5k/10k to raise funds and awareness for Black Lives Matter Los Angeles.
HOW IT WORKS
Like our first virtual 5K/10K, the second Keep Your Distance race will be held virtually on the weekend of Saturday, July 4th to Sunday, July 5th. You can record your run at any point after registering and submit your time (and an optional photo) any time during the weekend. The cutoff to submit your time is midnight on July 5th. All participants will receive finisher certificates!
Unlike the first Keep Your Distance run, this donation-based race is completely FREE to participate in. During registration, you will be given the option to make a donation in any amount to Black Lives Matter Los Angeles. Leslie Cohen Law will match donations up to $1,000.
You may participate as an individual runner or as part of a team (if you participate on a team, you will still be assigned an individual age group placement). Sign-ups are open for all-male, all-female, or co-ed teams of 5 or more runners. The fastest team in each category will be announced once the race is finished.
